Customizing Output

Print, HTML, and PDF output can be customized in several ways:

Paper Size

You can select paper size and margin here: .

Fonts and Colors

You can mofify fonts, text styles and colors for virtually any text element: .

For example, the style elements called Diagram in Text and Diagram on Web page control the apperance of the chess boards on HTML pages.

If you are planning to make HTML pages publicly available, you should make sure that the pages can be viewed on other client systems as well. For example, the fonts serif and sans-serif are garantueed to work on any system.

Modifying HTML layout

Modifying the page layout requires currently some technical knowledge about -so called- XSL sheets. For example, the file jose/xsl/html.xsl is used to create HTML pages.
If you're a bit familar with those XSL sheets, you will be able to customize them.

You can generate sample input files by selecting the XML File output format. This will create an XML file which is meant to be processed by XSL sheets.

In future versions, jose might provide more convenient methods for customizing output.

Modifying PDF layout

PDF files are also created from XSL sheets, only that they produce an intermediate format called XSL-FO. For more details, see .

Of course, all this is a bit too technical for the average user. If you have some ideas about which layout elements should be customizable (e.g. different page headers or footers), please don't hesitate to contact me at peterschaefer@users.sourceforge.net
